Flat roofing system works well with low slope roofs. The slope is a measure of the roofs steepness. It is calculated as rise over run and expressed as inches per foot. It is the incline of the roof expressed as a ratio of the vertical rise to the horizontal run, where the run is some portion of the span. A roof that rises 8 inches for every 1 foot or 12 inches of run is said to have a “8 in 12” slope. In general terms, low slope roofs are those below 2:12.
Our Flat Roofing Options:
TPO & EPDM
TPO can be a desirable option because it has a relatively low price point. Compared to PVC, TPO offers comparable energy efficiency and ability to weld hot-air at a fraction of the cost of PVC. TPO would be considered a strong roofing product because of its ability to resist tears, punctures and dirt and mold build-up.
Flat roofs are multi-tiered structures of complex design with a waterproof membrane at the top, the EPDM materials. EPDM roofing materials are resistant to extreme weather elements, abrasion, ozone, ultraviolet radiation, and even hail.
EPDM is an acronym that stands for ethylene propylene diene monomer. It is a synthetic and highly durable synthetic form of rubber. If you have ever heard the term, “rubber roof,” it was probably a reference to the EPDM waterproof roofing membrane.
EPDM is most commonly used on low-sloping flat roofs on residential and commercial buildings.
EPDM warranties can last from a few years to multiple decades. In some cases, EPDM membrane may be warranted for up to 40 years, depending on your requirements. Some EPDM warranties can be adjusted to cover high wind erosion, abrasions, punctures, and even hail as well. Many EPDM warranties can be affordably and conveniently extended when necessary.
EPDM warranties cover the cost of replacing durable and long-lasting materials. Because EPDM roofing materials are eco-friendly, inexpensive, and relatively easy to obtain, replacing those materials won’t break the bank when warranted. Along with synthetic rubber, EPDM roofing materials can be made from recycled tires, sawdust, and slate. In addition, any necessary repairs may be minimal because EPDM roofing materials are UV resistant.
